How MDI Gurgaon Students Are Redefining Career Reinvention
Careers often present two choices—stay within the comfort of the familiar or step into uncertainty to rediscover direction. For Subholaxmi Roy and Aneesha Rane, pursuing an MBA marked such turning points. Though they come from vastly different backgrounds, both found a shared space for growth at Management Development Institute Gurgaon.
Their journeys highlight resilience and reinvention, shaped by uncertainty, discipline, and a gradual build-up of confidence.
From Swimming Lanes to Business Analytics
Subholaxmi Roy’s Journey of Discipline and Adaptation
Subholaxmi Roy’s early years were defined not by classrooms, but by swimming pools. A National Long Distance Swimmer from Berhampore, West Bengal, she grew up balancing academics with the intense demands of competitive sport. Endurance, consistency, and mental strength became second nature—qualities that would later support her transition into management education.
Moving into Business Analytics at MDI Gurgaon was not seamless. The shift from athletics to a rigorous academic environment brought self-doubt and required her to rethink her approach. At times, her efforts did not yield expected results, forcing her to reassess her preparation.
Rather than retreat, she relied on the discipline ingrained through sport. By focusing on fundamentals, refining time management, and maintaining consistency, she gradually found her footing. Challenges became manageable, and confidence followed.
Her involvement in the Prep Team exposed her to the high-pressure environment of placements, while chess competitions sharpened her strategic thinking. For Subholaxmi, growth has been a continuous process—one she hopes to carry into future organisational roles, alongside her interest in social impact.
From Fashion and Modelling to Management
Aneesha Rane’s Leap into a New Professional Identity
Aneesha Rane’s journey began in a completely different domain—creative arts and public visibility. Raised in Nagothane, Maharashtra, she studied design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology and built a career in fashion and modelling, gaining recognition as a finalist at Femina Miss India.
Her career initially revolved around creativity, travel, and performance. However, a turning point came when she took on a role with a clothing brand that extended beyond design. Exposure to sales, operations, and client interactions introduced her to the business side of the industry, sparking a new interest.
Choosing to pursue an MBA meant stepping away from an already established career. Returning to academics after years in a creative field brought challenges, especially in quantitative subjects.
The early months at MDI Gurgaon tested her adaptability. Building academic discipline from scratch required persistence. Despite moments of doubt, she remained consistent—working through concepts and steadily improving. Over time, her efforts translated into strong academic performance.
She stayed connected to her creative roots through campus initiatives like MarQuity, the photography club Focus, and the music committee Mandolins. Aneesha is now set to join Reckitt as a Management Trainee, where she will gain cross-functional exposure and deepen her business understanding.
Redefining the MBA Experience
Where Diverse Paths Converge
Subholaxmi Roy and Aneesha Rane began their journeys in entirely different worlds—one grounded in the discipline of sport, the other in the fluidity of creative industries. Yet, both stories converge on a shared theme: reinvention.
At MDI Gurgaon, their experiences reflect a broader shift in management education. Today’s MBA classrooms are no longer shaped by linear career paths but by diverse perspectives and unconventional journeys.
By stepping into unfamiliar territory and embracing uncertainty, they are not just building careers—they are redefining what it means to begin again.
