Sagar Mayor Approves UNAccc Solar Housing Mission; AASHA Initiative Set to Bring Affordable Clean Energy to Millions

Sagar, Madhya Pradesh: In a major development for India’s clean energy movement by Gujarat Based Global Organisation Unity of Nations Action For Climate Change Council (UNAccc), the Sagar Nagar Palika Nigam has formally approved participation in the UNAccc Sustainable Living City and Solar Housing Program, marking a significant milestone in the national transition toward affordable, renewable energy. The confirmation comes through an official letter dated 17 November 2025, issued by Mayor Sangeeta Susheel Tiwari, addressed to the Madhya Pradesh State Energy Board. The letter affirms the municipal corporation’s support for the proposal submitted by UNAccc and instructs officials to begin preparing the project documentation for implementation.

The Mayor states that the proposal has been accepted “in principle”, recognising its potential to improve environmental standards and bring innovative, cost-effective energy solutions to the people of Sagar. Once the administrative process is completed, the project will move into the coordination phase, and official launch dates will be announced. This approval positions Sagar among the first cities in Madhya Pradesh to adopt the UNAccc Sustainable Living City Model.

AASHA: India’s Largest Affordable Solar Housing Initiative

The acceptance aligns Sagar with the national rollout of AASHA – Ahilyabai Affordable Sustainable Housing Abhiyan, showcased in the initiative video circulating across UNAccc’s networks. The video highlights how the program, inspired by the legacy of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, aims to transform the lives of low-income communities through sustainable living and energy independence.

The AASHA program forms a core part of the Unity of Nations Action For Climate Change Council (UNAccc) Solar Housing Mission and is designed to uplift vulnerable groups including BPL families, tribal communities, farmers, rural households, lower-middle-income families, and remote Northeastern states. The mission intends to benefit 600 million people by replacing costly energy sources with solar-powered alternatives that require minimal monthly financial commitment.

One Solar, Triple Benefits — A New Energy Model for India

The initiative video and accompanying proposal outline the unique “One Solar, Triple Benefits” model:

  • Zero Cost Electricity Bill through rooftop solar
  • Zero Cost LPG by shifting households to induction stoves
  • Zero Petrol Cost through EV adoption

This integrated approach aims to reduce household energy expenses drastically, allowing families to increase savings and improve their quality of life. UNAccc Founder President Dr. Rajat Sharma emphasizes this vision in the video, stating, “Empowering homes, empowering lives. Sustainable living is not just a choice—it is a necessity for India’s future.”

Affordable Solar at ₹99 per Month

Central to the initiative is its financial accessibility. Under the program, small rooftop solar systems of 1.75 kW to 3 kW are offered at a highly subsidised cost, enabling net-zero electricity and LPG bills. Through a simplified payment model of ₹99 per month for 60 months, families can afford daily clean energy at just ₹4–₹6 per day.which Including Electricity+ Cooking by Solar Electric Stove+ EV Charging Point for freedom from Petroleum Fuel,

The model—explained in the initiative’s documentation—allows households to save up to ₹1,350–₹1,600 per month, money that can be redirected toward education, food, healthcare, and small businesses. Said by UNAccc MP State Chairman Shishir Pandit,

Building a Sustainable Economy Through Clean Energy

According to UNAccc’s analysis, widespread adoption of the AASHA model could generate 200 million skilled and unskilled jobs, strengthen rural economies, and reduce the government’s burden on LPG, electricity, and fuel subsidies. The initiative also places India on track to become the largest developer of solar infrastructure in the world, contributing trillions to the country’s long-term economy and infrastructure.

The environmental benefits are equally significant, with the transition expected to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy adoption across India’s rural and tribal landscapes.

Supporting India’s Vision for Bharat@2047

The program supports the Government of India’s framework for:

  • Viksit Bharat 2047
  • UNAccc Sustainable Living City
  • Atmanirbhar Bharat
  • Bharat@2047
  • PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

With the official acceptance from Sagar, Madhya Pradesh takes a step toward this national vision, preparing its communities for a sustainable, energy-secure future.

A New Chapter for Sagar

As the municipal corporation begins formal coordination with UNAccc, Sagar is poised to become a demonstration district for India’s largest and most inclusive renewable energy housing program. With the Mayor’s approval, and the AASHA initiative now in motion, Sagar’s journey toward clean, affordable energy has officially begun.

Launch details, public meetings, and beneficiary enrollment processes will be shared by the municipal authorities in the coming weeks.
