Australia in Trouble: India Requires 7 Wickets to Seal Perth Test

The third day of the first Test between India and Australia at Perth concluded with India in a commanding position. Australia ended Day 3 at 12/3 in their second innings, needing an improbable 522 runs to win in the remaining two days. Meanwhile, India requires just 7 wickets to secure a victory.

Solid Start on Day 2

India dominated Day 2, ending their second innings at 172/0. Yashasvi Jaiswal (90*) and KL Rahul (62*) laid a strong foundation, carrying forward the momentum to Day 3.

KL Rahul-Yashasvi’s Stellar Partnership

Resuming on Day 3, KL Rahul was the first to depart after scoring a well-crafted 77 off 176 balls, which included 5 fours. He and Yashasvi Jaiswal added a massive 201-run partnership for the first wicket, setting the tone for India’s dominance.

Yashasvi’s Magnificent Century

Yashasvi continued his sublime form, smashing 161 runs off 297 deliveries before being dismissed at a total of 313. He showcased remarkable composure and stroke play, further solidifying India’s position.

Middle-Order Struggles

Despite Yashasvi’s heroics, the middle order faltered. Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel both fell cheaply, managing just 1 run each. However, Washington Sundar added some stability with a patient 29 off 94 balls.

Kohli’s ‘Virat’ Knock

Virat Kohli anchored the innings, registering an unbeaten 100 off 143 balls. His century, coupled with a quickfire 38* off 27 balls from Nitish Reddy, helped India declare their second innings at 487/6, setting Australia a daunting target of 533 runs.

Australia’s Struggle

In response, Australia faced an uphill battle. India’s bowlers struck early, reducing the hosts to 12/3 by stumps. With two days to play, India appears poised for a decisive victory at Perth.
